New CEO at Deliveroo following DoorDash acquisition

Meal delivery company Deliveroo is getting a new CEO. Finnish entrepreneur Miki Kuusi (36), co-founder of Wolt, is no stranger to the food delivery world. He will take on his new role from London.

Kuusi will succeed Deliveroo co-founder Will Shu, who announced last month that he would step down as CEO once the acquisition was finalized. In May, it was announced that DoorDash would acquire Deliveroo for £2.9 billion (€3.3 billion).

Miki Kuusi had previously sold his company Wolt to DoorDash in 2022 and took on the role of Head of International there. He remained chairman of Wolt during that time. Kuusi therefore brings deep experience in the sector.

In a post on social media, DoorDash CEO and co-founder Tony Xu stated that this marks “the beginning of a new chapter, not the end of an old one.” He also assured that “the Deliveroo app and products you know and love will remain.”

So for Deliveroo users, not much will change: the acquisition mainly means the company can now benefit from DoorDash's technology. Deliveroo shareholders will receive £1.80 per share. Former CEO Will Shu, who founded Deliveroo in 2013 with a friend, is leaving the company with £172.4 million (€198.3 million) for his 6.4% stake.
