The group aims to strengthen its position in the Utrecht urban region by integrating a recognized local player into its distribution network.

Sligro Food Group announces the acquisition (for an unspecified amount) of GEPU Beheer BV, an independent wholesaler based in Utrecht. GEPU is active in food distribution for catering and professional customers, both in delivery and self-service. The family business, with 50 years of experience, is located within a 30 km radius of Utrecht and employs 40 people (35 full-time equivalents). It expects a turnover of approximately €15 million for the 2025 financial year.
Gradual integration into the Sligro network
The agreement provides for short-term operational continuity. However, delivery activities will be gradually transferred to the Sligro logistics center in Vianen by the end of 2025, while GEPU customers will be able to access the national network of Sligro points of sale.
Koen Slippens, CEO of Sligro Food Group, emphasizes the complementarity between GEPU's customer service culture and that of his group: "We are proud to integrate a 'local hero' into our structure, while preserving what makes its assortment so rich, particularly its Mediterranean range."
Consolidation in a hospitality market under pressure
This transaction illustrates Sligro's consolidation strategy in the still-fragmented Dutch foodservice market. The choice of GEPU, a regional player with a strong identity, is part of a targeted expansion strategy, with strong local roots and complementary logistics.
For GEPU, this merger with a larger group aims to secure the future of the company and its employees. "This ensures continuity for our customers and employees under the best possible conditions," says Wilbert van Putten, CEO of GEPU.
