The company Just Eat Takeaway.com has just been bought by the Dutch-South African investment group Prosus, which holds a 28% stake in Delivery Hero, its German rival. The transaction has been approved for the sum of 4.1 billion euros.
Just Eat Takeaway.com passes into the hands of the investment group Prosus. The latter acquires the delivery company for 4.1 billion euros. Prosus is offering 20.30 euros per share. “We are delighted that Just Eat Takeaway.com is joining the Prosus group and that we have the opportunity to create a European technology champion,” said Fabricio Bloisi, CEO of Prosus, in a statement released today. The Dutch-South African group is delighted with this new addition to its portfolio. Prosus already has a number of food delivery channels, including the German company Delivery Hero, the iFood platform in Latin America and the Swiggy platform in India. “The acquisition of Just Eat Takeaway.com offers a unique opportunity to extend the leadership of a strong European food delivery platform, complementing Prosus' existing food delivery footprint outside of Europe,” the group writes. This is not Prosus's first acquisition attempt, as the group had tried to acquire the British company Just Eat in 2019, just before its merger with the Dutch company Takeaway.com in 2020. Now based in the Netherlands, Just Eat Takeway.com reported on Monday that its net loss had been reduced to 1.64 billion euros in 2024, compared with 1.85 billion euros in 2023.
